We have continued our enquiry 'Can you always see things grow?', by making observations of our beans for this week and learning about the parts of flowering plants. We then planted our beans in pots of soil, with the hope that these will give our beans the nutrients they need to grow and stay healthy. In History, we became detectives, using photographic evidence to determine how technology has changed in the last 60 years. Next week, we will look at how changes in technology has influenced how we write. We discovered what a network is, as part of Computing, and identified the different components that make up our school network. In French, we have been learning Little Red Riding Hood, which has been so much fun!
Landaviddy have been working hard this week on their English writing. We have continued to write up our stories, ensuring we are punctuating speech accurately and using exciting adjectives. Next week, we will finish editing and write up our final neat copies.
In Maths, Year 2 have concluded their unit on Multiplication & Division and are now eager to begin exploring Length & Height. Year 3 have continued working hard on Fractions, exploring how to order and compare unit fractions, as well as using fractions to measure scales.
Congratulations to Oliver for being chosen as Landaviddy's Person of the Week and a big well done to Esme for achieving her 22 Club!
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

In Literacy, we have finally written up the neat copies of our instruction texts and we cannot wait to move on to the next unit of work. In Maths, we ended our unit on Mass and Volume with a splishy-splashy-gooey potions masterclass. We all got rather wet as we measures, poured and mixed some awesome ingredients to make our potions.
In ICT, we have been discussing the multitude of technology that is around us and have been exploring how we control them. To round up our understanding, we spent time this week designing our own robots. We have had robots that alerts adults when a child is hurt to one that makes pizzas on demand. We have had robots controlled with a colour-coded remote controller to one controlled using a smartphone. We even had one that was voice-controlled using a special build-in Alexa!
Geography lesson with Mr Hunt was a very practical and active lesson where we explored how we can measure different daily weather patterns. We now have a thermometer and rain gauge set up outside to help us monitor daily weather at school.
In Science, we looked at how different objects sink or float depending on the materials they were made of. We worked in groups as we made predictions (just like a scientist) and set up our controlled experiment (just like a scientist) and tested our predictions (just like a SCIENTIST!). We had some very interesting results - Finley was completely flummoxed by the fact that a big heavy wooden Jenga block floated no matter what he did to it!
In DT, we have finally designed our finger puppets and we are ready to transfer our designs on to felt and begin assembling them next week.

The highlight of the children's learning this week has been the exciting expedition to Dartmoor Zoo. The visit included seeing the animals at feeding time, from otters to lions; hearing the lion's proud roar; watching the tiger confidently patrolling his environment; a nighttime visit around the zoo and participating in workshops and discussing how we can protect and improve the natural environment for all living things. The children's confidence oozed and the questions asked by the children were well thought through: for example, how could these animals be returned to their natural environment? Despite the long day of walking and viewing the animals, the children were a credit not only to Talland Class but to their parents/guardians and Brunel Primary and Nursery Academy School. The excitement, fresh air and the abundance of activities helped them to sleep soundly ready for a Friday morning stroll around the Zoo and team building games.
Best wishes, Mrs Swabey, Mr Parry and Mrs Walters.

Canute class have been cooking every week and Tregeagle class have had the offer of attending after school cooking club. To support the delivery of this, we applied for funding from Cornish Pasty Association and we are delighted to have received funding. Funds raised during Cornish Pasty Week 2025 will provide schools across Cornwall and Scilly with the resources they need to offer children regular cooking activities and buy equipment and ingredients to run cooking clubs or other fun food initiatives. This funding will allow us to continue offering cooking to all the children every week for the remainder of this school year.
This week we trialled a new way to award the Star of the week with the children voting for the person they felt had shown our values and kindness to others. It was lovely to read the positive comments the children listed as reasons for their choice; recognising the kind gestures and actions of their peers. This week they chose:
Betsy-Mae for being kind, brave and already making new friends in her first week atour school.
Irina for looking out for her peers, being helpful and showing kindness.
Some very apt choices in a week, where we learnt that the one of the contributing factors to happiness is social cohesion and belonging.
We have a full week coming up with lots of activities and events:
Monday: Canute trip to Nancarrow farm
Wednesday: Mother’s Day service at St Saviour’s at 2:30pm
Thursday: Tregeagle science and geography field trip Holywell Bay
Friday: Tregeagle concert at St Neot pm
Have a lovely weekend,
Jane Wills

Another week has flown by and so has the learning.
Most of us have completed our Anne Boleyn diary entries, using colloquial language and the subjunctive verb form. The diaries are amazing and I very much look forward to reading them.
MATHS
Y5s have begun to understand percentages, finding their fraction equivalences and their relationship with tenths and hundredths. They will progress to decimals next week. Y6s have been immersing themselves in algebraic formulas, function machines and expressions.
In DT, our sewing skills have progressed to sewing buttons, mastering the back stitch and using the stitch to create our initials. Next week, we will begin to design our coin purses. Our skills in rounders progressed to fielding techniques and we enjoyed another art session with Sean - drawing butterflies - and using shading to give the picture an 'antique-effect'.
Our greenhouse is all prepped ready for the Summer. We have been up there today getting the seeds ready for germinating. We have beans, chives, carrots, strawberries, peas, lettuce, cucumber just to name but a few! Thanks to FOPS, we will be ordering a fruit cage to help us grow raspberries and gooseberries in the next few weeks. Very exciting times!
Below, I have the KIRFS for this half term and the homework grid. Please feel free to work on anything over the Easter half term - I know that it is late attaching these.
Anyway, that's all from us so have a lovely weekend.

We hope you have all had a great week. It's been another busy one for us! Some brilliant art pieces have been created, where the children have been adding to an artist scrap book. They have found different methods to create a butterfly and then make it look old by screwing up the corners and adding different tones... they look amazing!
Maths:
Year 4 have completed their unit on fractions and will begin the unit of statistics next week (looking at graphs and charts).
Year 5 are ploughing their way through decimals where they are now becoming confident at recognising tenths, hundredths and thousandths. They can also order them in either ascending or descending order.
English
Talland have written their Diary Entries up in best copy. They're sounding amazing. They have used so much emotive vocabulary to really make you feel like you were a soldier during the Battles of 1066. Next week, we will stain them with tea bags to give them the ancient, mediaeval feel.
PE
Children have been practicing their gymnastic skills in the hall and learning how to bowl in rounders on the field. They're becoming efficient at throwing and catching in a range of styles.
RE
We continued looking at the Holy Week. We now know why there is Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We also enjoyed a little sing and a dance which is always good fun!
CONGRATULATIONS to Callum for being recognised by adults this week. His writing has improved so much this year. He should be very proud of himself.
GOOD LUCK to our cross country runners today. We hope you enjoy yourselves!
That's is it from Talland this week. We hope you have a marvelous weekend and we can't wait to see you on Monday.
Signing off from Mr. Langley, Mr. Bishop and Miss. Colton.

Hello, everyone! What an exciting week we've had here at preschool! Last week, we had a special visit from PCOS Bex and Chloe, who taught us all about the important job that police officers do. We learned about how they keep us safe, and we even got to ask lots of questions! One of the things we discussed was how important it is to know where we live and our parents' names, just in case we ever need help. PCOS Bex and Chloe were so friendly, and taught us the police want to keep us happy and safe. We loved seeing their uniforms and seeing their car, we even got to hear the sirens and lights!
This week, we switched gears and learned all about vets and how they take care of our furry friends. We talked about how vets help animals when they're sick, and how they make sure our pets stay healthy and happy.
In phonics we’ve been working hard on learning sound D. We’ve been practicing saying words like "dog," "duck," and "dinosaur." The children loved making the D sound and finding things in the room that start with D. It’s amazing to see how quickly everyone is picking up new sounds!
Next Friday we have our open afternoon, if your child is in session please feel free to come along and share a fun afternoon with us.
Come back next week to see what we get up to in Pre school.
Have a lovely weekend.
Miss Whitty, Miss Ronald and Mrs Evans.

Some of this week’s learning adventures!
In English this week the children have been showing Miss
Hughes their hand strength, pencil grip and letter formation by drawing
pictures of their favourite parts of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have
then been writing small sentences to go with the picture they have drawn using
their phonic knowledge.
In maths this week we have exploring doubles to ten and also
odd and even numbers within ten! The children have been working so hard with
their maths knowledge.
In outdoor learning we wanted to make our own footprints! We
tried to set the activity up outside and oh my goodness the wind!!! So our
outdoor learning became squelchy, squidgy indoor fun instead! We all took our
shoes and socks off and stood in a tray of paint! We then walked down a long
piece of paper to make our class footprints! This was so much fun and the
vocabulary the children used to describe the feeling of the paint on their feet
was spectacular!
In phonics this week we have finished learning all the level
3 phonemes. This week they were /ure/ and /er/ . The children have been
progressing so well with their reading skills. For the next two weeks we review
all of level 3 sounds before we assess the children’s knowledge and
understanding. After Easter we begin level 4, where we explore adjacent consonants
and polysyllabic words containing all of the level 2 and level 3 phonemes!
Another amazing week in Foundation class!
Have a wonderful weekend

Thank you for sending your children in today in MUFTI. We raised over
£130.00 for Comic Relief from your generous donations. We’re so sorry that we didn’t have enough
Red Noses for everyone who wanted one this year. We know some children were disappointed, and
we completely understand. To make sure this doesn’t happen again, next year we’ll be asking
families to pre-order their noses so we can get the right amount. Each box costs the school £60, and
we have to be careful not to over-order, but we also want to make sure every child who wants a
nose can get one.

Class 3 have been exploring
the concept of collage, they created a ‘mood board’ of ideas and different
techniques. In their final piece they will make a wild west wanted poster, they
will combine pattern, tone and shape for effect and justify why they have
chosen specific materials and methods.

This week, Class 3 had an amazing adventure at the Farm and Country Day held at Wadebridge Showground! The event was packed with hundreds of children of a similar age, and there were so many exciting stalls showcasing the technology, dedication, and passion that go into British farming. The children had a fantastic time, demonstrating excellent behavior and representing our school beautifully. We were also relieved to return home with all members of staff—especially after Mr. Thomas risked wearing red near a 1300kg bull!
Today was Red Nose Day, and we want to say a huge thank you for all your generous contributions to charity. The children also brought in some hilarious jokes, which we had a good laugh about. It was wonderful to see so much joy and enthusiasm for such a great cause.
In learning, the children have been working hard as always. In maths, they are getting to grips with fractions, tackling some tricky concepts with determination. In PE, the dodgeball lessons with our external coach, Owen, have been a big hit, with everyone enjoying the fast-paced action.
A special mention goes to all the children who participated in cross country this year. Today marked the final race, and we are incredibly proud of everyone’s effort and perseverance throughout the season.
With the sunshine this week, we’ve been able to use the field every day, which has been a welcome change after the winter months.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

It is hard to believe that we have only got 2 weeks left of the term! This week was another busy one with Mrs Lake and I having the opportunity to speak to parents and carers about progress and how well the children are doing. Remember, if you have any questions, don't wait for parent's consultations, get in touch with the office and we can arrange a phone call or meeting. We have been lucky enough, through our work with St Luke's, to play host to Elmer this week. He has been in our library listening to children read! Thank-you to St Luke's for letting us borrow him this week. Congratulations also to our cross-country runners, all of whom have become "Medal Qualifiers" in this season's events. Three of them have also become "Results Qualifiers"/ I am always impressed by successes outside of school and we are very proud of all of our runners. Following the success of the Lego coding team last Thursday, we have been included in lots of publicity including The Cornish Times and the Marine Biological Association. To find out more about our project and what the team got up to, please follow their links for more information. We could like to say a huge thank-you to everyone who has been able to donate to our Go Fund Me page to help send the team to Harrogate in May. The link is here if you would like to donate but it is truly heartwarming that so many members of the community have been able to help support our school. Ocean science meets innovation: Darite Marine Marvels win First Lego League competition On Thursday, March 13th, the Darite Marine Marvels, a group of Year 5 and 6 pupils from Darite Primary Academy, claimed the First Lego League Robot Performance Championship at RNAS Culdrose for the fourth consecutive year!
