Initial Teacher Training

Bridge Schools works in partnership with Cornwall SCITT as our accredited course provider to deliver a one year, full time course which leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Trainees also complete a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in partnership with Bath Spa University which is assessed through the submission of 2 assignments.

Working in partnership with Cornwall SCITT enables successful candidates to access the expert training they provide at their base in Truro College, whilst being supported through your practical training within a high performing and friendly multi-academy trust.

Where you will train

You will spend a minimum of 24 weeks on school placements. This time is spread across at least 2 schools. You will also spend time in a location to study.

How school placements work

Bridge Schools has 15 schools of varying sizes across Cornwall. The vast majority are able to host SCITT placements. Please indicate in your application if you have any preferences.

With our trust including small rural schools as well as larger town schools, we will be able to provide you with a contrasting setting for your second placement.

Placements will include one term in a KS1 placement, one in lower KS2 and one in upper KS2. Trainees may also have the opportunity to take part in enhanced placements in special schools, area resource bases (ARBs), alternative provision and nursery schools.

Course training takes place with Cornwall SCITT at Truro and Penwith College, Truro.

Interview process

Application forms are reviewed by our Trust senior leadership team and successful applicants will be invited for interview.

At interview, we will ask you to deliver a short teaching activity and a written reflection. We will also hold a more formal interview with you where we can find out more about you and your preparedness for the teaching profession. Our interviews are also an important chance for you to find out more about us and what we can offer you.

Where possible, if an applicant is applying to Bridge Schools Trust as well as directly to Cornwall SCITT’s own courses, we will try to combine interviews for you.

Training with disabilities and other needs
